About the Gun

The SW40G is a full-size, polymer-framed, striker-fired pistol of conventional double-stack configuration. It features a NATO green polymer frame with the texturing of the second-generation Sigma series, typically paired with a black Melonite or stainless steel slide. The trigger is a pre-set striker design, and the sights are fixed three-dot. An accessory rail appears on later examples.

Production ran from approximately 2001 through 2003.

MSRP at production was around $350–$430. Current used market value for examples in good to very good condition ranges $160–$275.

Analysis

Smith & Wesson introduced the SW40G as a NATO green-framed variant of the Sigma line in the early 2000s. It utilized the improved ergonomics and trigger characteristics of the contemporary VE-series guns while offering a distinctive green polymer frame for differentiation, often associated with law-enforcement or contract interest. Production of the green-frame models was limited compared with the standard black-frame versions. The SW40G sits in the transitional period between the original Sigma designs and the later SDVE refinements.
