About the Gun

The Trailside Target is a medium-sized fixed-barrel blowback semi-automatic built on the same anodized aluminum frame and steel slide platform as the Standard. It retains the single-action trigger and slide-mounted safety while feeding from 10-round magazines. Distinguishing features include laminated wood grips in place of the polymer set and fully adjustable target-style rear sights paired with a fixed front blade. It presents a more refined target-oriented appearance while retaining the simple, rigid fixed-barrel operating system.

Production ran from 1999 through 2006.

Market value

MSRP at production was around $450–$500. Current used market value for examples in good to very good condition ranges $400–$550.

Analysis

The Target model was introduced alongside the Standard as the upgraded package within the initial Trailside lineup. It addressed demand for a more competition-ready configuration by adding adjustable sights and wood grips while keeping the cost well below traditional Hammerli match pistols. The design reflected SIG’s effort to leverage Hammerli’s reputation for accuracy in a price range accessible to recreational and club-level target shooters. Like the rest of the series, U.S. production and importation under the SIG name concluded by 2006 following the end of the SIG-Hammerli arrangement, after which the platform continued in modified form under the Hammerli X-Esse designation in other markets. The Target remains of interest for its balance of practical upgrades and the inherent accuracy potential of the fixed-barrel Swiss design.
