About the Gun

The Trailside Competition is a medium-sized fixed-barrel blowback semi-automatic built on the established aluminum-frame platform with a steel slide. It uses a single-action trigger and slide-mounted safety with 10-round magazine capacity. This version features wider competition-style grips, fully adjustable target sights, and provisions for under-barrel counterweights, resulting in a noticeably broader grip profile and a more specialized target-oriented appearance compared with the Standard and Target models. It was offered primarily with the longer barrel.

Introduced in 2004 as the top-tier configuration of the Trailside series, the Competition model responded to demand for a more dedicated bullseye-oriented package within the affordable Hammerli-derived platform. It added competition grips, weight options, and refined sighting while retaining the simplified fixed-barrel construction that distinguished the line from more complex and expensive traditional match pistols. The short production window reflected the overall limited run of the U.S.-market Trailside before the SIG-Hammerli relationship ended and ownership of Hammerli changed. Today the Competition is the least common of the three primary variants and is of particular interest to shooters seeking the most competition-focused iteration of this Swiss-made, SIG-imported rimfire design.
