About the Gun

The SP2009 is a medium-frame, polymer-framed, hammer-fired pistol from SIG’s first polymer series. It uses a conventional double-action/single-action trigger system with a frame-mounted decock lever and follows the familiar SIG control layout. The design features interchangeable grip panels, and a stainless-steel slide. It is a full-size 9mm pistol with a standard double-stack magazine capacity for its era.

Analysis

SIG introduced the SP2009 in 1999 as the 9mm counterpart to the SP2340, which had launched the year before in .40 S&W and .357 SIG. The company needed a 9mm option to address European and broader law-enforcement demand after initially focusing on the higher-pressure U.S.-oriented calibers. The SP2009 retained the first-generation Pro architecture, including the proprietary rail and rounded trigger guard, and saw adoption by various police agencies, including Swiss forces. It was largely superseded by the second-generation SP2022, which added a Picatinny rail and other refinements driven by the large French contract. In the market the SP2009 represents an early example of SIG’s move into polymer-framed duty pistols while preserving the traditional DA/SA manual of arms and four-point safety system of the metal-framed P-series. Today it is a discontinued but still functional and relatively affordable entry in the SIG Pro lineage.

IT JUST GOES BANG!

One of the most reliable pistols out there....regarding of its age. Some will object the double action only trigger...but it has a place in the world when it comes to a level of safety. Trigger is manageable, just learn how to use it (just like any other gun)....this is not competition gun...just a good reliable pistol for defense.
