Analysis

The .380 Auto P290 variants were added later in the series production (around 2014) as SIG expanded caliber options for the platform. They followed the RS configuration with restrike capability, offering a lower-recoil alternative to the 9mm models for users prioritizing ease of use in a pocket-sized package. The .380 versions shared the same modular grip and laser options as the 9mm line but saw more limited overall production before the P290 series ended. They filled a niche in the micro-caliber concealed carry segment.

400+ rounds downrange. Six different brands of ammo. Failed to go into battery at least a dozen times. With both magazines. Not sure if it's the mag springs or underpowered ammo. Had to disassemble and reassemble six round mag to get it to function properly. Thorough cleaning after 2nd range session. No problems since. Fit, finish, and build quality are excellent. Trigger is long and heavy. Practically have to press trigger against frame to get it to fire. Have to take up pre-travel, then aim and fire. Multiple consecutive shots must be executed slowly or accuracy will suffer. This is basically a revolver in a semi-auto's body. Not the best choice if you need to fire quickly and accurately. However I consider it the perfect size for a concealed carry firearm. Just wish trigger travel was shorter.
