About the Gun

The P229 SAS is the Anti-Snag (dehorned) version of the compact P229, featuring rounded edges and smoothed contours on the slide and controls for reduced snagging during draw and carry. Gen 1 models have a consistent stepped slide profile, two-tone finish (stainless or nickel-plated slide on black hard-coat anodized aluminum alloy frame), wood grips, bobbed hammer, and DAK (Double Action Only) trigger. Gen 2 models feature a stepped muzzle contour with a slab-sided breech block area, all-black Nitron finish, black polymer grips, and standard DA/SA trigger with regular hammer.

Analysis

The P229 SAS variants applied SIG Sauer’s Anti-Snag treatment to the compact P229 platform to improve comfort and concealability. Gen 1 models, with their two-tone finish, wood grips, bobbed hammer, and DAK trigger, emphasized a snag-free, simplified double-action-only manual of arms suitable for concealed carry. Gen 2 models shifted to an all-black Nitron finish with a standard DA/SA trigger and regular hammer, often including the Short Reset Trigger for improved performance. These limited-production variants offered specialized carry-oriented refinements on the proven P229 design before the introduction of the Legion series.ies.
