About the Gun

The P229 Extreme is a compact double-stack model featuring the Elite package that includes a beavertail frame extension, front slide cocking serrations, front-strap checkering on the aluminum alloy frame with black hard-coat anodized finish, and short-reset trigger. It has a black Nitron finish on the stainless steel slide, Hogue G10 grips, and was produced with SIGLITE night sights.

MSRP at production was around $1,150–$1,300. Current used market value for examples in good to very good condition ranges $850–$1,100.

Analysis

The P229 Extreme combined the compact size of the P229 with the ergonomic upgrades of the Elite series, including the beavertail, front serrations, improved checkering, and short-reset trigger for better control and comfort. The all-black Nitron finish and G10 grips gave it a tactical appearance, while the enhanced trigger system improved follow-up shot speed. Produced in limited numbers primarily in 9mm during the late 2000s to early 2010s, it offered a refined, duty-ready option on the P229 platform before SIG Sauer placed greater emphasis on the Legion series.
