About the Gun

The P227 maintains the same size and overall layout of the P226 and is made with the E2-type enhancements that were first introduced to the P226 in 2010, such as the one-piece modular grip, stainless steel slide, and black hard-coat anodized aluminum alloy frame. Three configurations consist of a black Nitron variant, a threaded barrel variant, and an Equinox two-tone variant with contrasting slide and controls.

Analysis

The P227 was SIG Sauer’s first double-stack .45 ACP pistol, developed to provide higher capacity in the popular .45 caliber while retaining the handling characteristics of the P226 platform. The inclusion of an accessory rail on all variants addressed the demand for weapon-mounted lights in tactical and law enforcement applications. The threaded barrel variant added suppressor capability, while the Equinox finish offered a distinctive two-tone appearance. The P227 had a relatively short production life as SIG Sauer shifted focus toward other models in the P-series lineup. These three variants represent the primary factory configurations offered for the base P227.
