Analysis

The P226 Sport was developed as a target and competition variant that added a weighted barrel assembly to reduce muzzle flip and improve stability during rapid fire. The stainless steel barrel weight increases forward mass without extending the actual rifled barrel length, which remains 5.0 inches. It used full stainless steel construction for added mass compared with standard alloy-frame P226 models. Produced in very limited numbers during the early-to-mid 2000s as part of SIG Sauer’s Mastershop / Custom Shop offerings, it represented an early precision-focused version of the P226 platform before the later introduction of Elite and Super Match long-slide models.
