Analysis

The P220 ST is the all-stainless-steel variant of the full-size P220, featuring both a stainless steel slide and stainless steel frame instead of the standard aluminum alloy frame. This construction added noticeable weight that helped reduce felt recoil while maintaining the locked-breech short-recoil operating system and DA/SA trigger with decocker. The large majority of examples were finished in natural stainless. A Nitron (all-black) version was also produced in extremely limited numbers, primarily for law enforcement trial and evaluation contracts. The P220 ST provided shooters seeking greater mass and durability with a factory option on the platform prior to the introduction of the later Elite and Legion refinements.

best gun all around

I bought this SIG P220ST in 2002, it was my only gun for 16 years and I became an expert with it. I can shoot left-handed or right-handed just as well at 25 yards, using either hand I can put 30 rounds inside of a 3" group at 25 yards. 30 rounds because I have 6 magazines which I load 5 rounds in each.. that is my typical plinking setup. After every magazine, I switch hands. In any case, I've shot over 100,000 rounds through this gun over the years, had to replace the barrel once at about 75,000 rounds because I can tell it was off. I sent the gun back to SIG in 2012 replace the barrel and change the controls and trigger to nickel, one of the additional services that they offer is a accurizing option where they polish the ramp in the barrel, crown the barrel at 15 degrees, lighten the SA trigger and shorten the reset. that helped and improved my grouping but I'm telling you that I could do the same even if I didn't get that service. Best, most comfortable and reliable gun.
