About the Gun

The RXM is a modular striker-fired polymer-frame pistol built around a removable serialized stainless steel Fire Control Insert seated in an interchangeable Magpul Enhanced Handgun Grip frame. Grip frames are offered in compact and full-size lengths, with barrel lengths of 4 inches or 4.5 inches; the longer barrels are available fully shrouded or with an exposed 1/2-28 threaded muzzle. The optics-ready slide accepts common red-dot footprints and carries co-witness-height steel sights with a tritium front. A universal accessory rail, undercut trigger guard, flared magazine well, and flat-faced trigger are standard. Finishes vary by variant across the Magpul grip frame and slide.

Analysis

Ruger introduced the RXM in December 2024 as a joint development with Magpul. The design pairs a Ruger-made Fire Control Insert with Magpul’s Enhanced Handgun Grip frame, creating a chassis-style modular system while retaining broad compatibility with Gen 3 Glock 19-pattern magazines, barrels, and many internal parts. The original offering centered on a compact 4-inch configuration aimed at the civilian defensive and range market at an accessible price point. Full-size grips and 4.5-inch barrels, including factory threaded versions that ship with an extra heavier recoil-spring assembly, reached the catalog in 2025. These expansions allow a higher-capacity duty or competition-oriented layout while preserving the same modular Fire Control Insert and optics-ready slide. Ruger has continued to add grip colors and sizes and has stated that the platform will remain in production with further configurations planned. The RXM has drawn attention as an affordable American-made modular alternative in the crowded striker-fired 9 mm field; no significant military or law-enforcement contracts have been reported.
