Analysis

Para-Ordnance developed the high-capacity double-stack 1911 concept in the late 1980s with conversion kits and began complete-pistol production in 1990, creating the P14-45 platform that retained the single-action 1911 system while doubling magazine capacity. The Pro Custom was introduced in 2013 as the competition variant of the 14.45 line, developed with input from IPSC World Champion Travis Tomasie. It combined hand-fitting, IonBond coating, G10 grips, adjustable sights, and other match features into a ready-to-run double-stack competition pistol. Manufacturing continued under Para USA in North Carolina until the brand was retired in early 2015 after the 2012 acquisition and subsequent integration into Remington Outdoor Company. Examples remain available on the used market and are sought by shooters who want high-capacity 1911 performance from the original double-stack pioneer.
