About the Gun

The FN Model 1922 was developed from the earlier Model 1910 as an extended-frame version to fulfill a Yugoslav military contract in the early 1920s. Changes included a longer barrel and an enlarged frame and magazine. The pistol was subsequently purchased or adopted by military and police organizations in the Netherlands, Greece, Turkey, France, Belgium, and other countries. It is also known as the Model 10/22. Production continued at FN through the postwar period until the early 1980s. During the German occupation of Belgium from 1940 to 1944, several hundred thousand examples were manufactured, the large majority in .32 Auto and frequently marked with German Waffenamt stamps such as WaA140.

MSRP at production was around $20–$50 depending on era and contract. Current used market value for examples in good to very good condition ranges $400–$600 for standard commercial or postwar specimens. Early occupation or documented contract examples in good to very good condition may realize premiums above the standard range, with observed sales for marked or contract pieces typically falling in the $700–$1,500 range depending on specific markings, condition, and provenance.

Analysis

The FN Model 1922 was manufactured in both .32 Auto and .380 Auto. Production began in the early 1920s and continued for several decades, with the model remaining in production into the early 1980s. During the German occupation of Belgium from 1940 to 1944, the FN factory produced an estimated 360,000 to 450,000 pistols under German direction. Initial output in this period consisted largely of assembled pre-war components and was predominantly chambered in .380 Auto. Subsequent new production focused on the .32 Auto caliber and commonly included German Waffenamt inspection markings. Following liberation of the factory in September 1944, limited additional pistols were assembled from remaining parts before standard commercial and contract production resumed. Occupation-period examples are documented in historical accounts of wartime small-arms manufacturing and appear regularly in the collector market.
