Analysis

Beretta added the Compact in 2010 to fill the gap between the full-size PX4 Storm of 2004 and the Subcompact of 2008. The usual industry order is full size, then compact, then subcompact; Beretta reversed the last two steps and came back for the midsize gun once the Subcompact was already on the market. The Compact keeps the Cougar-derived rotating barrel instead of the Subcompact’s tilt lock. The shorter barrel uses a block adaptor in the frame, and the slide stop is ambidextrous. Magazines were given orange followers, and the Compact accepts full-size PX4 magazines. Both 9 mm and .40 S&W were listed from the start, each in Type F and Type G. Type F was the usual commercial gun. Type G appeared in smaller numbers and later as the lockwork on factory carry-tuned Compacts done with Langdon Tactical. The two types share the slide; F-to-G conversion is a detent change in the lever, so a converted F still shows the red fire dot. Used Compacts are common and generally trade in the same band as the full-size Storm
