About the Gun

Full-size alloy-frame DA/SA 96 with a straight Vertec backstrap, thin plastic grip panels, and a short-reach trigger. Slide-mounted safety/decock lever, removable 3-dot sights, and a frame rail. Bruniton finish.

Analysis

Beretta introduced the Vertec grip in 2002 on both the 92FS and the 96. The 96 Vertec used catalog code J96FA10. The straight backstrap, shorter trigger, and integral rail were aimed at agencies that wanted a thinner 1911-like hold on the 96 frame. Blue Book closes the row after 2005 with the rest of the early Vertec catalogs. Used boxed examples with both magazines sit above a worn standard 96.
