About the Gun

Full-size all-steel DA/SA 92-series match pistol with a double-stack magazine, Vertec straight backstrap, extended beavertail, and thin textured polymer panels. No accessory rail. Open-slide falling-block lockup on a lightened Brigadier-pattern slide. Frame-mounted ambidextrous safety that does not decock. Nistan finish, factory optic-cut slide, fiber-optic front sight and an adjustable rear, Xtreme-S trigger, oversized magazine release, and a flared magazine well.

Production began in 2021 and is currently ongoing.

MSRP is around $1,299. Current used market value for examples in good to very good condition ranges $850–$1,200.

Analysis

Beretta cut the steel 92X Performance down in 2021 so it would make IDPA weight with a red dot on the slide. The 2019 Performance sat near 48 ounces with a magazine in; Defensive loses the dust-cover rail, uses a polymer guide rod, thin 92X panels, and internal lightening in the frame and Brigadier slide. Factory weight is 42.7 ounces empty. The frame-mounted non-decocking safety, Xtreme-S trigger, and fiber-optic front with an adjustable rear stay. U.S. guns arrived in time for the 2021 IDPA Nationals. The later Carry Optic put an unlightened optic slide back on the full-weight railed Performance frame for USPSA. The Defensive remains the light factory optic 92X. Used examples trade on match wear and whether the plates and extra magazine are still with the gun.
