Analysis

Beretta built the 92SB, first shown as the 92S-1, for the U.S. Air Force pistol trials. The name marks the added firing-pin block. The slide safety became ambidextrous, the magazine release moved from the heel of the grip to the trigger guard, and three-dot sights became standard. Full-size production ran through the mid-1980s. Italian police and some U.S. agencies issued the gun. The 92F that won the XM9 program took the later squared guard and Bruniton finish from this pattern. Boxed examples with both magazines sit at the top of the used range.
