About the Gun

Full-size alloy-frame DA/SA 92 with a straight Vertec backstrap, thin grip panels, and a short-reach trigger. Integral rail on the dust cover, removable 3-dot front sight, beveled magazine well, and a slightly shorter barrel than a standard 92FS. Slide-mounted safety/decock lever. Bruniton finish.

Analysis

Beretta introduced the Vertec to answer the long complaint that the 92 grip was too arched and too thick. The name is the straight backstrap: thinner panels, a short-reach trigger, a beveled magazine well, a removable front sight, and a one-slot rail on a slightly shorter slide. Factory code J92FA10 listed in 2003 at a modest step above the plain 92FS. Blue Book closes the original 92FS Vertec after 2005. The same grip geometry later returned on the M9A3, M9A4, and 92X. Original Vertacs are no longer common next to those later guns, and boxed J92FA10 examples sit at the top of the used 92FS range.

Great overall gun, totally infallible and will eat & digest any 9x19 ammo from any manufacturer. Bullets can be FMJ, JHP, LSWC, Quality handloads, etc., expensive pistol but totally dependable in any adverse condition. Never had FTF, no Stovepipes, no ejection problems were ever encountered. Dropped in mud, quickly cleaned off as best possible with free hand, pointed barrel downward, shook & drained as best possible, continued shooting with same mag. High capacity mags never falter either. You can be assured, if you do your part, this gun will ALWAYS do its part, and you’ll make it home in one piece. MikeB.
