Analysis

Beretta built the 92D for departments moving officers off double-action revolvers. The D stands for doppio, an Italian word that means double: every trigger pull is a long double-action only stroke, the hammer is bobbed, and the slide has no safety lever. A lighter hammer spring was used to keep that pull workable. U.S. catalogs listed the full-size 92D from 1992 through 1998. County and municipal issues were common in the mid-1990s; many of those guns later returned as trade-ins. The civilian market never took to the long trigger the way agencies did, so used 92Ds sit at or below a comparable 92FS and boxed commercial pistols are the ones that bring more.
