Analysis

Beretta introduced the 92 Centennial in 2015 to mark one hundred years since the Model 1915, the firm’s first semi-automatic pistol and an Italian wartime sidearm. The commemorative is a working 92-series gun rather than a replica of that early pocket auto: the steel frame and thickened Brigadier slide give it the weight of a target pistol, while the single-action lockwork and frame-mounted safety are the features taken from the 1915. Roman numerals for 1915 and 2015 are cut into both sides of the slide and repeated around the grip medallions. Factory serials run in the CX prefix with a /1915 suffix, and the numbered run was sized to the anniversary year; about five hundred of the 9 mm guns were allocated to the United States through selected dealers. List price sat far above a standard alloy 92FS, and leftover cans later sold at a discount. Complete boxed examples still bring a premium over ordinary steel-frame 92 variants, but the used market has settled well below the original sticker.
