About the Gun

The Cheetah class is a medium frame blowback operated pistol. It features an open slide design similar to the model 92 which is intended to increase the reliability of the firearm. Other features include a reversible magazine release, an aluminum alloy frame and an ambidextrous frame-mounted safety. Early models were made with rounded trigger guards while later models have combat style trigger guards.

Production

Production ran from the early 1990s through 2017.

Market value

MSRP at production was around $800. Current used market value for examples in good to very good condition ranges $800–$1,200.

Analysis

The 84FS is the last letter gun on the .380 Auto double-stack Series 81 line. Beretta moved the safety/decock lever to the slide on the F guns and corrected the lever on the FS so it would not hang in a half-cocked position. Cheetah went on the slide and the box in the mid-1990s. Italian production continued in small lots into the mid-2010s and stopped in 2017, when the series paused. Rome’s municipal police issued the 84FS from 2002. Nickel guns were a catalog option, not a separate mechanism. Used Bruniton 84FS pistols are the common Cheetah on the market. Nickel examples with original wood grips and the box sit well above them.
