About the Gun

Compact double-stack DA/SA blowback pistol with an alloy frame and an open-top slide. Exposed hammer and an ambidextrous frame-mounted safety with no decocker. Rounded trigger guard. Early guns use a plain blade-and-notch sight.

Analysis

Beretta introduced the Model 84 in 1976 with the Model 81 as the first Series 81 pair. The 84 is the .380 Auto double-stack gun: same open-slide blowback lockwork as the 81, in the hotter cartridge. Base pistols have a rounded trigger guard, a frame safety, and no firing-pin block. The B update in 1980 added the block and grooved straps, so unsuffixed 84 production is the short first run. Used early 84s are less common than later BB and FS guns. Clean Italian-marked examples with original magazines sit at the top of the range.
