About the Gun

Compact rotating-barrel pistol with an alloy frame and a short steel slide. The 8045 uses a standard-capacity .45 Auto magazine in a slightly longer Cougar envelope. The F variant is DA/SA with an exposed hammer and an ambidextrous slide-mounted safety/decocker. The D variant is DAO with a bobbed hammer and no manual safety. Checkered black plastic grips and fixed three-dot sights. Finish is matte black Bruniton.

Production ran from 1998 through 2002.

Market value

MSRP at production was around $700. Current used market value for examples in good to very good condition ranges $400–$550.

Analysis

Beretta added .45 Auto to the Cougar in 1998. The 8045 keeps the rotating-barrel lock and alloy frame of the earlier 8000/8040 guns and uses a single-column magazine. F production ran through the end of the Italian line. Blue Book ends the D gun in 2002. In 1999 Beretta offered a limited Cat Pack kit on the 8045F—special case, pin, and laminate grips with a cougar medallion. That kit is not a current variant. Used 8045 pistols are less common than 9 mm and .40 S&W Cougars. Clean Italian-marked examples with original magazines sit at the top of the range.
