About the Gun

Compact double-stack rotating-barrel pistol with an alloy frame and a short steel slide. Type P uses the 8000F L’s beveled slide and lighter barrel on the full-size 8000 grip. DA/SA with an exposed hammer and an ambidextrous slide-mounted safety/decock lever. Checkered black plastic grips and fixed three-dot sights. The barrel is hard-chromed.

Production ran from 2003 through 2005.

Market value

MSRP at production was around $650. Current used market value for examples in good to very good condition ranges $550–$750.

Analysis

Beretta built the Type P at the end of Italian Cougar production by putting the light L slide on the standard 8000 frame. That kept the full magazine and the full butt while cutting slide mass. It is a different gun from the short-grip 8000F L and from the square-slide 8000F. Italian-marked Type P pistols were a short, low-volume run. Later catalog Cougars reused the same L-slide / full-grip layout and are separate. Boxed Gardone-marked guns with original full-size magazines are the ones that bring money.
