About the Gun

Large single-action .22 LR target pistol with an aluminum frame and a long, heavy barrel. The grip is a shaped walnut target panel. Sights are a fixed front blade and an adjustable rear; a detachable scope base is part of the U.S. setup. It has a frame safety and an integral grip safety.

Production ran from the late 1980s through 2008.

MSRP at production was around $550. Current used market value for examples in good to very good condition ranges $550–$750.

Analysis

Vladimir Yarygin designed the IZH-35 in the 1970s as Izhevsk’s standard-pistol and rapid-fire gun for Soviet teams. The IZH-35M followed in the late 1980s with a grip safety, a relocated magazine release, and a revised barrel shroud. Baikal exported that M gun to the United States around 2000 as a mid-priced competition pistol. The factory dropped the IZH-35M name in 2008 when the line became the MP-35M. Used examples stay in the bullseye and sport-pistol market; they are scarce next to Western target .22s but turn up with some regularity.
