About the Gun

The A-90 is a medium all-steel DA/SA locked-breech service pistol with a double-stack magazine, a button magazine release, an ambidextrous slide-mounted safety, and a frame-mounted decocker. Standard guns are blued, with black plastic grips and an adjustable rear sight. It is the middle pistol in Astra’s SIG-pattern A-80 / A-90 / A-100 line.

Production ran from 1985 through 1990.

MSRP at production was around $450. Current used market value for examples in good to very good condition ranges $275–$400.

Analysis

Astra introduced the A-90 in 1985 as a safety update of the A-80. The frame, lockup, and decocker stayed; the heel magazine catch became a button release, and an ambidextrous slide safety was added that lifts the rear half of a two-piece firing pin out of the hammer’s path. That combination made a more complicated lockwork than the A-80. U.S. import ran from 1986 through 1990. The A-100 of 1990 dropped the slide safety and kept the decocker. Used A-90s trade as the short-run middle gun of the family; magazines and small parts are limited.
