About the Gun

The Arminius HW 3 is a compact, double-action/single-action revolver with a solid frame and a swing-out cylinder. Early guns released the cylinder with the ejector rod; later guns use a frame-mounted thumb latch. It has a short barrel, fixed blade-and-notch sights, a blued finish, and plastic grips. Cylinder capacity is eight rounds in the rimfire chamberings and seven in .32 S&W Long.

Analysis

The HW 3 was Weihrauch’s first Arminius cartridge revolver, introduced in 1960 in .22 LR, .22 WMR, and .32 S&W Long. L.A. Distributors sold early U.S. guns as the Dickson Bulldog; other labels included Omega and, in some markets, Gecado. The recent pattern with a thumb-latch cylinder release remains in Hermann Weihrauch catalogs. The .32 S&W Long gun uses a seven-shot cylinder on the same compact frame.
