About the Gun

he FX Thunderbolt is a Government-size 1911-style single-action pistol with a matte black steel frame and slide, checkered mahogany grips, a dust-cover accessory rail, and front and rear slide serrations. It uses an extended beavertail grip safety, a rounded hammer, an ambidextrous thumb safety, an aluminum trigger, and a fixed front sight with an adjustable target rear.

Production ran from 2010 through 2014.

MSRP at production was around $700. Current used market value for examples in good to very good condition ranges $450–$550.

Analysis

American Tactical introduced the Firepower Xtreme 1911 line in mid-2010 as an entry-level family built by Shooters Arms Manufacturing in the Philippines. The FX Thunderbolt was the dressed Government variant in that first group: a railed, adjustable-sight pistol with chrome-finished controls, sold well above the plain FX Military and FX GI. It stayed a single-stack .45 Auto 1911 rather than a match gun, and it used the same Philippine steel construction as the rest of the series. Catalog life was short; Blue Book closes the Thunderbolt in 2014 while the GI-styled guns continued. Used examples show up less often than the Military and GI and trade in a higher band, but they are still working 1911s rather than collector pieces.
