About the Gun

The FX GI is a compact Commander-size 1911-style single-action pistol with an all-steel blued frame and slide, checkered mahogany grips, fixed military-style sights, and an aluminum GI-pattern trigger. It uses a rounded Commander hammer, a beavertail grip safety, and a conventional thumb safety, and it keeps the full-length grip of the Government-size FX Military so it feeds from the same magazines.

Production ran from 2010 through 2021.

Market value

MSRP at production was around $500. Current used market value for examples in good to very good condition ranges $300–$400.

Analysis

American Tactical introduced the Firepower Xtreme 1911 line in mid-2010 as an entry-level GI-styled family built by Shooters Arms Manufacturing in the Philippines. The FX GI was the Commander-length variant in that first group, sitting between the full-size FX Military and the short FX Titan. It followed Series 70 lockwork with a matte blued 4140 steel frame and slide rather than a dressed-up target or rail gun, which put it in the same price band as other Philippine 1911s then crowding the low end of the U.S. market. The 9 mm version arrived later as a same-envelope Commander with a single-column 9 mm magazine; it did not change the role of the model. Regular importation of the steel FX GI ended in 2021 as American Tactical moved its 1911 catalog toward the polymer-frame FXH hybrids and other sources. Used examples remain common as inexpensive Commander 1911s and do not carry collector premium.
