Analysis

American Derringer acquired the High Standard over/under double-action design in 1990 and sold the rimfire gun as the DS22 Standard. High Standard had built the hammerless D-100 and D-101 from 1962 until that firm’s derringer work ended in 1984. The Standard keeps the original-size lockwork: internal hammer, automatic lower-then-upper barrel sequence, open-front guard, and a hammer-block thumb safety. Factory catalogs listed it in .22 Mag with a blue finish. The stainless DA Double Action is the enlarged centerfire companion on the same design family. Output was small and often special-order. Used examples turn up irregularly and sell in the same range as other late Waco rimfire guns.
