About the Gun

Designed for concealed carry, the Walther PPS (Police Pistol Slim) is a sub-compact polymer frame semi-automatic pistol with an ultra slim profile. This profile is obtained by the use of a single-stack magazine and Glock-style trigger safety. The PPS comes with an accessory rail and features a loaded chamber indicator located on top of the slide along with a cocking indicator on the rear of the slide. Other features include an integrated accessory rail and interchangeable palmswells. A first edition was also available in this model with an anthracite finish. First edition appears on the left side of slide. This edition sold out during late 2008. About magazine capacity... Genitron.com normally specifies the minimum capacity magazine that ships with a given handgun. In the case of the PPS, Walther specifies three magazine sizes; S,M,L (6,7,8 rounds for 9mm - 5,6,7 rounds for .40SW) but only ships with two of the three sizes. Initially that was an S and M with the L being optional. Now they are shipping with an M and L with the S being optional. Genitron.com is going with what is currently and most commonly shipped, M and L, such that the M size magazine is what is used for specifications and ranking calculations.

About the Cartridge

This cartridge was developed as a joint venture between Winchester and Smith & Wesson. It was an effort to to create a cartridge with the same power as the 10mm Norma round that the FBI had just started using, but in a shorter case. The shorter cartridge would facilitate accuracy and allow use of a smaller, more comfortable grip frame. The .40 S&W has become the cartridge of choice for many law enforcement agencies in the United States.
