About the Cartridge

Smith & Wesson introduced this cartridge for its heavy-frame revolver. Ammunition was developed by Winchester in cooperation with Smith & Wesson. Using a lengthened and strengthened version of the .38 Special case, the .357 Magnum was rapidly accepted by hunters and law enforcement. At the time of its introduction, it was claimed to easily pierce the body panels of automobiles and crack engine blocks. While it has less power than the .44 Magnum, it compares favorably to the 10mm Norma and .45 ACP, but with better armor penetration. Today factories offer over fifty different loadings in this caliber.

Ideal find, minor tweaking toward perfection
By tgiv on 11 Nov 2020
Power, penetration and even capacity for a revolver, light & snubby enough to pocket carry. Experts love it next to the heavier 627. The S&W triggers almost my cup of tea but never will be Ruger smooth, not even this Performance Center item. Replaced grip, hammer springs & firing pin, went back to original Hogue grips ... now As Good As It Gets. Easier to clean than LCR Ruger. Wish List: CT green laser grips; TRUGLO TFX Pro Tritium and Fiber Optic Sights

Tweaks
By tgiv on 06 Oct 2020
Update: Tweaks netting more bulls eyes .... 1) trigger weaker mainspring Wolff which may need a metal shim to tune it in ~dime's thickness = smoother, less forceful pulls 2) bit longer firing pin, best if spring comes with 3) rebound springs seem unnecessary 4) contrary to videos, stock rubber shock Hogue grips best Compared to SW 442 trigger, very smooth now and Ruger LCR 357 almost #2

Smooth perfection

Sick of high maintenance, plastic, springs & deep cleaning ... Found this new in King of calibers firing silky smooth w/night front sight. Single action always a bullseye once used to a hair trigger. Does not like all reloads. Leather pocket holster can be had if pockets are deep. Crimson trace has only the red laser grips but might reduce finger reach to trigger for some. Recoil minor. Cleaning typically minor SOP revolvers.
