About the Gun

The P227 maintains the same size and overall layout of the P226 and is made with the E2-type enhancements that were first introduced to the P226 in 2010, such as the one-piece modular grip. This is SIG's first double-stack 45ACP pistol, and it is available in full-size and carry lengths which fit most holsters designed for the P220 and P226. Other features include a checkered front strap and trigger guard, stainless steel barrel, Siglite night sights and lower Picatinny rail. The SAS variant features an SRT trigger action, anti-snag treatment on the slide and frame and no rail.

About the Cartridge

This cartridge was developed by John Browning and was adopted by the United States Ordnance Department along with the Colt-Browning automatic pistol in 1911. It has also been made the official military handgun chambering by several other governments, notably Argentina, Mexico and Norway. The 45 Automatic is the most powerful military handgun cartridge in use today. This is a heavy and powerful sub-sonic round. Although its muzzle energy can exceed 400 ft-lbs, its velocity and bullet weight creates a steep trajectory curve that limits its effective range to self-defense distances.
