About the Gun

The Vaquero is a basically a New Model Blackhawk with old-fashioned fixed sights consisting of a front blade and a notch milled into the frame at the rear. Although it is fashioned after the Colt Single Action Army, its dimensions are slightly larger. The Vaquero was introduced in 1993 to meet the growing demand for quality modern firearms used in the growing sport of cowboy action shooting.

About the Cartridge

This cartridge was developed for Winchester's Model 1873 rifle. It is yet another example of an early centerfire, black-powder cartridge that has been used in both pistols and rifles. While it is greatly outperformed by the .44 Remington Magnum, this caliber is making a comeback in Cowboy Action Shooting events.
