About the Gun

The Vaquero is a basically a New Model Blackhawk with old-fashioned fixed sights consisting of a front blade and a notch milled into the frame at the rear. Although it is fashioned after the Colt Single Action Army, its dimensions are slightly larger. The Vaquero was introduced in 1993 to meet the growing demand for quality modern firearms used in the growing sport of cowboy action shooting.

About the Cartridge

This was originally a blackpowder cartridge designed as one of the chamberings in the Winchester Model 73 lever-action rifle. Around 1878 Colt began chambering revolvers for it. No rifles have been chambered for the 38-40 since 1937. It is still a popular cartridge chambering for cowboy shooting revolvers
