About the Gun

The VP9 is HK's first striker fired pistol since their P7 series pistols were introduced in the 1980s. This is a polymer frame pistol with some unique features. Along with front and rear serratons the slide includes patented rear slide charging supports, vertical extrusions on the rear of the slide that make it easier to grip. Also the integrated polymer grip includes interchangeable side and backstrap grip panels, allowing for a more customizable grip. Other features include 3-dot night sights, cocking indicator, ambidextrous slide release, reinforced polymer frame, captive flat recoil spring, cold hammer forged polygonal barrel and extended Picatinny rail. Models produced before 2021 were shipped with 15-round magazines.

About the Cartridge

This cartridge was introduced along with the Luger semi-automatic pistol. The pistol and cartridge was first adopted by the German Navy in 1904 and then by the German Army in 1908. This cartridge has since been adopted by the military of practically every non-Communist power. It has become the most popular and widely-used handgun cartridge in the world. Performance wise, the 9 mm cartridge has somewhat more power than the .38 Special but falls well short of the .357 Magnum.

HK VP9 Great 9mm
By EdnHSV on 16 Jan 2023
I purchased the VP9 because I wanted to try a product by HK. What drew me to this pistol was the remarkable resemblance it held to the Walther PPQ. Even down to the magazine release. Unbeknownst to me HK had already been using this design for sometime. This pistol is outstanding out of the box. The gun feels customized right out of the box with its night sights and interchangeable grips. You can create a very customized pistol quickly. The pistol shoots clean and without fail or malfunction with quality rounds or range rounds. I've never had jam with the VP 9. It's concealable so long as you dress for it. This is a great gun.
