Whitney Firearms was a company that operated beginning in the mid-1950’s focused on producing the futuristic Wolverine pistol. Co-founded by Robert Hillberg from Hi Standard and Howard Johnson from Bellmore Johnson Tool Company in Hamden. Poor marketing of the Wolverine lead to the closure of Whitney Firearms by the early 60's. The Whitney name was used because the factory was located near the old Eli Whitney factory site.
