Originally founded in Canada in 1985 under the name Para-Ordnance, this company has been making specialized adaptations of Colt-Browning type pistols since 1988. Their guns are distinguished by an attention to detail that has been recognized by a variety of industry awards. In 2009 the company moved from Canada to North Carolina and changed its name to Para USA. Para pistols are known for their adaptation of the 1911 frame which allows them to accept high capacity magazines.
On Jan. 30, 2012, The Freedom Group(the holding company for Remington) purchased the assets of Para USA. Manufacturing continued in Pineville, North Carolina until the trademark was retired in February 2015 and all operations and manufacturing was moved to Huntsville, Alabama.
